Heavy focus on…
As more and more project mngmt. methods come up – all shiny with huge certification proceedings to make sure only true evangelists will proclaim the only right way of ITPM – the coincidentally meetings of members of different PM religions result almost immediately in weird discussions about the one and only truth in PM.
Problem is that every method training, each ITPM certificate manifests the mental glue of a project manager to a particular ITPM method. Should we stop that. Definitly not.
But keep in mind that today there is no project management method that fulfills perfectly the needs of all existing projects.
So one of the most important skills of an experienced project manager is not only to oversee the different methods and their pros and cons but also to oversee the huge combined-out-of-all-methods-toolbox and use any kind of tool wherever it comes from to tailor a project management exactly to the project particular needs. As much as necessary as little as possible.
PM grandmastership is a project management that is almost not noticable and that has a solid position in the background leaving wide space for the team and the scope in the frontline. Using tools that are easy to understand and easy to handle.
Service oriented project management.
